René Ferret Préjelan, born in Perpignan 1877, died in 1968. Well known cartoonist and illustrator, creator of the so called “Little Women of Paris (petite femme de Paris)” which is recently rediscovered in favor of “pinupmania” for the French ladies from the 1920s. He collaborated on La Caricature, Fantasio, Le Rire, La Baîonnette, Fémina and La Vie parisienne. In 1905, he created a comic strip, “Jo et Josette”, published by Qui lit rit. He exhibited at the Salon des Humoristes and Les Maîtres humoristes devoted their number to him (2nd series, n ° 3) in 1908. He is the author of La Légende de Béquinette (1902), L’Amour en dentelles (1903), Memories of a Shotgun (1949) and Hunting Pictures (1952).
During the Great War, he was Sub-Lieutenant in the French air force Oriental Squadron stationed in Samli (Thessaloniki, Macedonia) and Thasos. In 1916 he produced 32 watercolors with daily scenes of the airforce of the Army of the orient and local Macedonian people, which was later produced as a limited edition of 250 copies in a folder named as “CROQUIS D’AVIATION EN MACÉDOINE. Dessins, Croquis & Aquarelles”. One copy of this folder as well as one original watercolor from this series entitled “The wind from Vardar (30- Le Vent du Vardar) is in author’s private collection.
