Born in Elze 1872, died in Hamburg 1964. Trained at the school of Heinrich Knirr (1862-1944) in Munich and later at the Berlin Academy. Professor at the school of applied arts Altona, co-founder of Altona artist’s club, numerous public commissions. Literature: Vollmer, Rump, Der Neue Rump a. other. Battermann was likely a war painter during the First World War, travelling through the Balkan countries with the German army. A watercolor entitled “Turkish Han Skoplje” is in private collection of the author of this lexicon. Several other paintings with motives from Balkan are in private collections in Argentina, Canada , etc…
