French orientalist who visited Greece and Turkey several times, particularly in the period of 1819 and 1825) mainly around Athens and the island of Corfu, and the surrounding of Constantinople. In his journeys, he passed through Aegean Macedonia where he painted mainly people in traditional dresses. Lous Dupre was impressed by the local folk dresses and exotic oriental everyday scenes. He was also romantically inclined toward ancient Greek history and legacy.
There is at least one record of a painting that he made during his stay in Macedonia: “Macedonian Smoker (Macedonien Fumant”), sold by the auction house De Quay, Paris, France on 12 March 1993 (lot number 167, sold for 31 000 French francs).
